Welcome to the webpage of Teme Valley Heritage Engineers (TVHE). We are a West Midlands based traditional engineering company which provides bespoke services to the heritage sector and individuals. These range from specialist building conservation, repair, refurbishment and maintenance, as well as professional services in the form of surveys, recording, feasibility and consultancy on aspects ranging from planning through to sensitive new build. Our sister company also specialises in Hydro generation on historic mill sites, from site survey and feasibility studies through to installation and maintenance.

Director Adam Marriott has over 15 years of millwrighting experience, having trained under many of the UK's preeminent millwrights before starting his own business in 2006.

We have been involved with a number of West Midlands projects including some of the region's best known attractions. These include:

  • Warwick Castle, where we provide a rolling maintenance programme and call out service for the watermill, and have extended our services to include the more unusual objects in the castle including the trebuchet and one of the few fully operational portcullises in the country.

  • Chesterton Windmill, providing emergency mechanical repairs to wallower and winding mechanism. Adam is also frequently involved with running the mill on open days and was recently interviewed for an ITV report on the mill which can be viewed below:

  • Shugborough Hall, providing regular maintenance and repairs to the model farm's working watermill. Works have included rebuilding of the sluices and waterwheel, and reinstatement of the mill to grind for demonstration.
  • Sarehole Mill, complete restoration of the mill to full working order. This is part of a programme to bring the mill back to the state familiar to J.R.R. Tolkien in his childhood that is reflected in his works such as the Hobbit and Smith of Wooton Major.

  • Avoncroft Museum, fitting of a new tailpole to the relocated Danzey Green post mill, in addition to extensive repairs and rebuilding of the sails.

  • Daniel's Mill Bridgnorth, restoration and repair work following the 2007 flood. This involved restoration and reinstatement of the gearing and re-dresseing the stones.

Teme Valley Heritage work to the SPAB philosophy of repair, placing the historical and technical integrity of the mill as a high priority. We ensure any repairs undertaken are sympathetic, as our primary aim is preserving mills as working machines that will survive for future generations to study and enjoy. The repair and restoration of mills should only be taken on by those with adequate knowledge and experience, in order to ensure both their historical integrity and longevity.

Mills are a unique combination of building and machine, Teme Valley Heritage are an Engineering company uniquely equipped to tackle some of the bespoke repair solutions required. Adam is a qualified agricultural engineer who, after graduating, undertook a traditional craft apprenticeship with one of the few remaining craft millwrights - the late Vincent Pargeter. Adam is supported by a network of other craft specialists including blacksmiths, small foundries, woodworkers and many others.
